Intro To Models of Intelligence and Differential Schools

Nine Types of Intelligence by Howard Gardner

Response from Howard Gardner regarding his concern that his work is being misunderstood;

I am working on a response to Mr. Gardner regarding my own Differential Schools and The Nine Models of Intelligence based on his excellent descriptions of various forms of intelligence. I had already been brainstorming and semi-developing different alternative school  for at least 4 years before I found his work. I did not study him so much as began immediately considering the path to weaving his work into a way to model that would benefit the student with-out the stigma of labels.  This is one of his concerns and I speak further to that in my response.
The Alternative schools are not so different from some already in existence and new ones being looked at.  His profiling is detailed and leaves room to step outside of the cookie cutter labels as we learn to identify and watch for these traits in the students.  Of all ages.
These are not meant to replace the standardized tests; they are meant to help discover those students who work best with those tests and those who do not, as well as develop other forms of standards for testing.  The tests are for astute teachers who can see behavioral and interest level patterns occurring from seemingly unrelated subject material, both during actual class time and relaxing kicked back hours.
The term Differential School I had formed before finding any actual material on Differential as a form of discipline or study.  It was simply put into my head by the memory of the days when I was trying understand the concept of gears and teeth.
yes.  I was that deep.

  1. President is listening to the parents and teacher and is calling for a change in the Standardized testing . He asked parents on one of his posts What they would like to see replace some of the many test.... music? art? sports? These are good; these are excellent actually and much needed, but these were not My first thought. My first thought was simply we need to get away from the desk work and make these times into actual usage of the lessons and skills being tested on. Use school store times.... and any of the things that the parents or kids can come up with that would be a job in training type work, or play. Sorry I'm so vague here. I am tired. was not going to work tonight. apprenticeships with in the schools. This is done in Trade school already so bring it to the lower grades and make it for more of the everyday stuff that people, students, youth, do.
    this was the idea, the details, as always are to be discussed. I am beginning to see many people starting to discuss about religion and science and other blending of subjects together.
    Obama wants to make this change...
    I am suggesting the change to be something towards a redefining of the school systems entirely, but as always implemented in steps. He had offered the first step. I don't know about you but when I heard him say this It was almost all i could do to stop myself from being just plain happy... well, I didn't , excited is the word...
    But I have learned to curb excitement a bit in order to make some sense.

  2. I am thinking... That particular brand. Using Leggos, of course as the example and building kits or whatever we want to and can make available for young and more mature students; play times, like job or craft fairs...
    See what would happen here is that we would even begin to teach a secondary lesson that is one of the overall things I want them to learn... here they will begin to learn to test themselves. And to give themselves challenges, but for starters we ARE playing and creating things useful, or non... what ever it takes to discover things that they do not now.
    Hillary, is that too idealistic? Not being sarcastic, just that it is practical as well
    That's the idea
